Things Couples Get Wrong
- Coming from out of state. If neither of you lives in Georgia, you get the license in the county where the ceremony will happen. Georgia residents can apply in any Georgia county. The ceremony must be in Georgia.
- Tybee counts as Chatham County. The City of Tybee sends couples to this same court.
- Planning a courthouse wedding. This court does not offer or conduct ceremonies. You will need an officiant, and some are listed here.
- Blood tests. The court says they are no longer required.
- Waiting period. The court's page doesn't state one. If your timing is tight, call and ask.
- Marrying across the river. The ceremony must be in Georgia for this license. Hilton Head and Bluffton are in South Carolina, so see the Beaufort County steps.
